The University College of Teacher Education Styria is one of Austria’s largest higher education institutions specialising in the initial, continuing and further training of teachers, and in providing advice to schools, other educational institutions and educational networks on quality development.
Its range of programmes includes teacher training, educational studies and continuing professional development courses for teachers at pre-school, primary and secondary levels, as well as a comprehensive programme of professional development and consultancy. It supports around 2,000 teacher training students and 2,000 continuing professional development students, and offers a professional development programme for around 15,000 educators at some 900 schools in Styria.
Teacher training programmes
The teacher training programmes offer Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees for primary education, for 29 subjects in general secondary education, and for six subject areas in vocational secondary education. Students graduate with a Bachelor of Education (BEd) and a Master of Education (MEd). All programmes cover subject-specific knowledge, subject-specific teaching methodology, practical experience and general pedagogical aspects.
Further education and training
Our range of continuing professional development programmes for educators is evidence-based and tailored to the needs of staff, teaching and school development.
Educational research and educational guidance
Our educational research is practice-oriented and career-focused. In addition, we train managers and support quality development processes through our support and consultancy services for schools and other educational institutions.
Graz and Styria
Graz is the capital of Styria, one of Austria’s nine federal states. It has a population of around 300,000 and is a ‘student city’, as over 60,000 students are enrolled at its eight universities and higher education institutions. As well as traditional cultural offerings such as opera, theatre and numerous concert halls, Graz is also renowned for modern art, jazz and literary festivals. Attractive shopping streets, cosy restaurants, cafés and pubs lend the city a southern flair that everyone should experience.
We wish you a successful semester filled with new insights, as well as fun, enjoyment and new friendships!
